Salary Factors and Considerations

Nephrologists are specialized physicians and surgeon practitioners who have high earning potential. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a median $208,000 annual salary for physicians in general. This confirms it’s one of the highest-paying healthcare occupations.

Several factors, including experience, location, and subspecialty expertise, may influence your benefits and compensation. Here’s a salary breakdown for specific nephrology subspecialties for your reference.

  • Pediatric Nephrology Jobs. An average pediatric nephrologist makes $161,407. The salary range falls from $149,751 to $361,657.
  • Interventional Nephrology Jobs. The salary for interventional nephrologists starts from $226,400 to $339,600. The average salary is $283,000.
  • Transplant Nephrology Jobs. Transplant nephrologists’ average salary is $180,010, but the rate can increase up to $788,135. They earn $269,251 on average in San Francisco, CA—50% higher than the national average.

Nephrology telemedicine jobs and nurse practitioners may have lower salaries than the rates above due to their limited scope of practice. Ultimately, your pay would still depend on specific healthcare recruiters and employers.
