Job Description
POSITION DUTIES: Performs duties as an Industrial Hygienist, Preventive Medicine Service, TAMC, responsible for conducting complete evaluations of work operations within US Army Pacific and subordinate units, US Army Garrison Hawaii, and TAMC involving potentially hazardous environmental condi-tions, analyzing findings, and recommending corrective measures and controls. Evaluations may include hazards resulting from: inhalation, ingestion, or skin absorption of chemicals; heat and pressure extremes; ionizing and non-ionizing radiation; noise and vibration; and ergonomics. Meets and deals with workers, supervisors, managers, commanders, and health and health-related professionals in the accomplishment of assignments. Prepares written technical reports of survey findings, recommendations, and corrective actions required. Assists with coordination of subject results and recommendations with organizational operating officials, supervisors, managers, medical personnel, safety personnel, and others involved with the environmental aspects of the organization surveyed. Plans, measures, and quantitates the presence of toxic particulates, gases, and vapors in the work environment. Makes reference with respect to the degree of hazard upon the health of the worker and recommends corrective controls. Designs, calibrates, and evaluates sampling techniques and instruments used in work site evaluations. Recommends use of specific personal protective equipment to individual activities as needed. Plans and evaluates ventilation systems as required and prescribes appropriate corrective control. Assists in serving as the Command representative and coordinator for surveys and inspections conducted by higher headquarters and other agency representatives. Participates in the review of plans and inspection of sites for new or modified facilities, processes, and materials for evaluation of the adequacy of health hazard controls. Participates in special studies or investigations related to a particular occupational health problem, complaint, or suspected occupational medical condition related to environmental factors and stresses. Maintains close liaison with the Directorate of Facility Engineering and Safety Offices in the solution of occupational health problems. Develops and conducts health education training designed to educate personnel on the nature, prevention, and control of occupational health hazards. Assists in conducting Respiratory Protect Program training and respirator fit testing. Maintains up-to-date information and is familiar with the reference library consisting of Federal, State, DOD, DA, MACOM, and Health Services Command standards and guidelines. Gathers data for and assists in compiling operating, administrative, and statistical reports. Maintains up-to-date Local Occupational Health Hazard Inventories and Coding Submissions of work sites and personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.
