Job Description

MAJOR DUTIES: The primary purpose of this job is to provide a Physician who is board certified or board eligible in OB/GYN to carry a full range of cases, including the most difficult in the specialty, and provide consultative services to other staff members on difficult OB/GYN cases. Complicated cases requiring treatment or services for which existing hospital facilities are not adequate are referred to other civilian or military medical facilities. 1. Examines, diagnoses, treats or prescribes course of treatment for OB/GYN patients including those of an unusually complex and difficult nature. Ascertains immediate needs as deemed necessary. Performs surgical procedures and assists in Operating Room (OR) under minimal supervision of the Chief, Obstetrics/Gynecology Service, guiding and directing the assisting physician, nurse anesthetist and nurses. Performs basic colposcopy and treatment of dysplasia on OB/GYN patients. Instructs and supervises other ancillary personnel in the care and treatment of patients. Administers and prescribes medicine and treatment. Records medical data or case history on prescribed Army Medical Department forms as required. Reviews and studies medical history and progress of patients. 2. Exercises consultative responsibility of a high level of professional competence in the specialty areas of OB/GYN. Serves as a consultant in OB/GYN to other medical officers, primarily on the more complicated OB/GYN cases. Available on call to advise medical officers of procedures to be followed in the care and treatment of difficult cases, and to answer questions of ward personnel regarding management of hospitalized OB/GYN patients. Responds to OB/GYN calls in house and provides back up call for other obstetricians. 3. Provides high risk ultrasound clinic to include Biometry, fetal surveillance and biophysical profile. Prepares basic infertility workup, evaluation and treatment. Provides basic perinatal risk management conferences and education for the staff. Performs other duties as assigned.
