Locum Tenens AnesthesiologistLocation: Berlin, VermontSetting: Hospital-Based Level III Trauma CenterAssignment Details
  • Start Date: July 14, 2025
  • End Date: December 31, 2026
  • Schedule:
    • Need locum interested in weekend call- one or both days: 7a-7a home call
    • Regular Shifts: MondayFriday, 7:00 AM 3:00 PM
    • Call Shifts: 24-hour call (first 10 hours in-house, then home call as needed; must be able to arrive at hospital within 20 minutes)
    • Weekend Home Call: Required
    • Additonal call details: Prefercombination or 7-3 and the 24-hour call but either would be helpful
    • The call-back is variable, we try not to do non-urgent cases at night but if there is no space for them in the OR then next day we do cases
    • OB is the most frequent call-back
    • Call back rate is around 70%. The post-call day is not mandatory but is recommended
    • Shift Types:
      • On-Call Days: Medical direction of 23 ORs
      • Non-Call Days: Primarily solo cases
      • Pre-Call Days: Endoscopy, OB, BronchoscopyWork Environment
        • Hospital is fully staffed by 6 physicians
        • OR days are 7am-3pm -Typically 2-3 MDs are in the OR daily plus 1 person on call from 7am-7am with the first 8 hours being in OR, then home call
        • Supervision Model:
          • Solo practice on non-call days
          • Medical direction of CRNAs and AAs on call days
          • Occasional senior anesthesia resident (rural rotation)
        • Support Staff:
          • Weekday anesthesia techs
          • Experienced surgical staff for after-hours assistance
          • EMR System: EPIC
          • Trauma Level: III
          • Culture: Team-oriented, collaborative, small-group environmentClinical Expectations
            • Required Procedures:
              • Regional anesthesia (especially for orthopedics)
              • Spinal/epidural for OB
              • Central lines and arterial lines
              • Airway management as needed
            • Case Volume:
              • Typically 45 cases/day
              • Cataract cases may be 10+/dayCandidate Requirements
                • Board Status: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Anesthesiology
                • Licensure: Active Vermont license preferred; must be able to obtain temporary privileges and credential quickly
                • Certifications Required:
                  • BLS
                  • ACLS
                  • PALS
                  Additional Notes
                  • No fellowship required
                  • Long-term commitment preferred
                  • Comfortable working independently and directing mid-level providers
