Physician (Internal Medicine):

DUTIES: Position Description As a specialist in internal medicine, provides full treatment to cases involving outpatient and inpatient medical care. Also furnishes expert professional consultative assistance in internal medicine matters to colleagues, other clinical services and outlying medical treatment facilities. In this capacity performs the following: a. Evaluates outpatient and inpatients for gastrointestinal problems. Performs the following gastrointestinal sub-specialty procedures: esophago-gastro-duodenoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopy with or without cold or hot biopsy and polypectomy with cold biopsy forceps or snares: Hemostasis of GI bleeding with non-variceal sclerotherapy with/without clips. (70%) b. Personally performs in-depth evaluation and treatment of outpatients and inpatients. With full in-patient privileges, admits patients suspected of having a complex clinical course requiring further in-depth evaluation. Because of overlapping symptoms of a complex nature in some patients, the incumbent is required to exercise considerable ingenuity to make the proper diagnosis and order multiple tests. Complicated diagnostic testing procedures may be required to institute the proper plan of therapy. Recognizes acute and chronic medical problems and diagnoses a wide variety of medical conditions. Follows patients with the above problems as appropriate with periodic reevaluation and treatment revisions. Provides medical evaluation and treatment to cases in the intensive care unit involving internal medicine. ((5%) c. Performs the following cardiology sub-specialty procedures: performs and interprets Transthoracic Echocardiogram (TTE) with M-mode/2D, Color Doppler and Tissue Doppler Imaging (5%) d. Acts as a consultant furnishing recommendations and instructions to other internists, general medical officers and to other medical colleagues in the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF), outlying medical clinics and aid stations throughout the Korean peninsula, and to professional counselors in community agencies. Provides acute care during times of physical emergencies. Incumbent is required to be trained in Acute Cardiac Life Support and Acute Trauma Life Support and to maintain skills so as to be ready for individual and mass casualty emergencies. (10%) e. Responsible for all administrative activities normally associated with inpatient and outpatient health care delivery within the military setting. Also responsible for participating in various hospital meetings, including, but not limited to, quality assurance meetings. Ensure medical records are updated with in-depth evaluation of patients, their treatments and their prognoses. Maintain required continuing medical education (CME) hours by attending conferences and other approved CME events. (5%) f. Supervises one local national Clinical Nurse, KGS-09. Assigns work, establishes performance standards, provides advice and guidance on work and administrative matters, provides training, and evaluates performance. Schedules and approves leave, initiates personnel actions, resolves employee complaints, and takes minor disciplinary action if required. Interviews and selects applicants for vacant positions. Reviews job descriptions for accuracy and reports detailing of employees. 5% Performs other duties as assigned.
