As a Medical Instrument Technician (Gastroenterology) you will: - Assists the Gastroenterologist and/or the GI Surgeon in various clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic and/or emergency procedures - Assists with endoscopic biopsies and polypectomies. - Provides patients an initial preparation checklist and provides an explanation of the procedures to minimize fears and to ensure their cooperation. - Selects, sets up, adjusts and operates equipment for designated procedures. - Moves the mobile procedure cart, equipment cart and portable monitor to the ED, ICU or OR. - Prepares the equipment for operation; and, assists the gastroenterology physician in the procedure with the equipment. - Positions and drapes the patient in accordance with clinic standard operating procedures. - Operates the automatic endoscope reprocessing system to disinfect equipment. - Disinfects equipment to prevent patient infection and cross-contamination by disassembling the scope, brushes parts and dips into a solution prior to putting into the washer. - Prepares reports on examinations, equipment and utilization, workload, supply status, consumption and related matters. - Maintains inventory according to standards. - Performs all setup of equipment, checks instruments/equipment for completeness and proper functioning prior to beginning procedure; and troubleshoots equipment during procedures as necessary. - Performs other duties as assigned.
