Job Description

1. In accordance with the Army Public Health Command and policies of MEDCOM and the Medical Command of Ft. Irwin, California, performs a variety of program management tasks, recommends health clinic policy and drafts standard operating procedures, medical directives, and local regulations for the occupational health program. Recommends program objectives consistent with resource allocations (budget, manpower, and material), and determines the need for and directs procurement of current literature, educational materials, supplies and equipment for clinic operations. Prepares and maintains all required records and reports relative to occupational health nursing functions. Periodically evaluates the overall occupational health program to assess trends or changing needs and recommends program changes when appropriate. 2. Develops programs to prevent occupational injuries and illnesses through education and workplace evaluation. To assess the need for medical monitoring and to monitor established medical surveillance, participates with Safety and Industrial Hygiene surveys and worksite inspections of facilities. To reduce and eliminate hazardous worksites, utilizes established area suspense system for periodic surveillance of worksites, hearing examinations, immunizations, TB screening, vision and respirator fit testing. 3. Develops and conducts programs to insure, pre-placement, periodic and termination examinations. Assesses and evaluates established clinic procedure used to obtain health histories and physical data on employees. Develops or revises preventive health education program; orients, trains and counsels employees and management on identifying and preventing health problems and educates employees through displays and bulletin boards, distribution of pamphlets and publication of articles. As a Hearing Program Coordinator, insures periodic hearing conservation education and inspection, and will participate in the National Training Center (NTC) Vision conservation program. 4. Screens and prepares documents for deploying, redeploying, in and out-processing soldiers and civilians. Performs the full range of patient nursing duties to include audiogram examinations, EKG, Pulmonary Function Testing, immunizations and TB skin testing. Incumbent will have expertise in the use of MODS/MEDPROS, and must be certified in the use of DOEHRS-HC and NIOSH certified in Pulmonary Function Testing. 5. Utilizes data obtained from physical exam and screening programs to recommend specialized programs that include prompt Audiology and Behavioral Health referrals, Informs employees of the purpose and results of examinations and tests by interpreting technical information, and counsels employees on health matters and recognizes potential problems that will affect their performance. Provides daily reports to supervisor and/or the Chief of Preventive Medicine and will provide oral and written reports to the Garrison Safety, NTC FECA and MEDDAC EOC and IC staff. Performs other duties as assigned.
