Fulfilling Career in Psychiatry: Physician Jobs in Demand

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a surge in mental health disorders and an unprecedented demand for psychiatric services.

Around 122 million Americans (37% of the population) reside in areas with inadequate mental health facilities. They may not have access to comprehensive treatment plans, such as psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, or a rapid-response psychiatrist who can prescribe medications.

This data underscores the need for qualified professionals to pursue rewarding mental health careers. The psychiatry job market, in particular, is highly sought after due to a projected shortage of 14,280 to 31,109 psychiatrists by 2024.

Are you ready to step up and make a difference in the mental health community? Secure the highest-paying psychiatry jobs while making a meaningful difference in people's lives.

Psychiatrist Salaries and Compensation Information

Private practices can provide psychiatry physicians with higher pay and more control over their work schedule and patient load. But it can still vary depending on factors such as experience, location, and specialty.

With that said, let’s look at the average salaries for psychiatrists in different states and cities.

  • The highest paying states for psychiatry jobs are:
    • New Mexico - over $239,200
    • Wyoming - over $239,200
    • North Dakota - $390,140
    • California- $311,950
    • Connecticut - $308,690
  • Meanwhile, the following are the go-to areas for high-paying psychiatry jobs:

    • Champaign-Urbana, IL - $348,410
    • Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA - $322,780
    • Grand Rapids-Wyoming, MI - $321,340
    • Salinas, CA - $321,060

Psychiatry jobs may also offer additional compensation benefits. Some listings in our database, for instance, include VISA sponsorship, sign-in bonus up to $35,000, and relocation reimbursement of $10,000
