Job Description

Provides appropriate referrals to other medical and mental health care providers in and outside of Medical Treatment Facility (MTF). Provides consultation liaison services and able to transition to any area in the population as required. Treatments require very advanced knowledge and/or skill and selection from a variety of alternatives. Incumbent makes recommendations on major diagnostics and treatment plans. Employee provides inpatient care and/or follow-up care for patients with chronic or acute disorders and complications of these disorders, such as psychosis, organic brain syndrome, substance abuse/addictions, etc. and provides psychiatric care for walk-in patients presenting with acute illnesses of minor and major proportions. Develops an individualized biopsychosocial treatment plan based on the individuals diagnosis, personal and family history, current family situation, laboratory and other diagnostic tests and procedures taking into consideration family, community, and military-specific factors. Responsible to make decisions that will have significant impact on the lives of others, including the need for hospitalization, referrals to Child Protective Services (CPS), work or school restrictions, disability evaluations, restrictions on overseas assignments and eligibility for the exceptional family member program (EFMP). The employee is expected to exercise initiative and sound judgment in establishing evaluation techniques, developing treatment and rehabilitation plans and providing appropriate therapeutic treatment services. Examines and conducts thorough studies of presenting patients and evaluates laboratory and clinical findings, prescribing appropriate treatment or referring patient to appropriate specialty clinics. Incumbent collaborates with physicians in other medical specialties on cases involving complicated and multifaceted problems and provides professional consultation, supervision, and collaborative medical support to other professional staff such as psychologists, advanced practical nurses, social workers, as well as military specific liaison work with commanders. Within the boundaries of qualification and credentials, provides care to beneficiaries of all ages from children to geriatric adults with a wide variety of illnesses as needed and directed. Patient care setting may include, but is not limited to, inpatient services, partial hospitalization services, intensive outpatient services, routine outpatient services and consultation liaison services.
