Job Description

As a Physician (Internal Medicine) you will: Functions as a manager and team member of a collaborative health care team in the delivery of comprehensive health care and health maintenance in a primary care setting. This includes care of patients with acute episodic or chronic illnesses, emergency care, rehabilitation, preventive health measures, health maintenance, and health education services. The incumbent performs general internal medicine procedures on site and is considered an expert in the field of Internal Medicine. Caseload occurs as a result of scheduled, urgent, or emergency requirements for care. The incumbent directs supporting employees during the performance of clinical procedures. The incumbent may refer patients to other sub-specialtiesfor continuation of care. She/he is fully responsible for the quality and timeliness of narrative summaries of procedures performed. Incumbent performs administrative duties which include, but are not limited to, reporting and tracking statistical records of workload; participating on clinical staff boards and committees;participating in medical education programs; training of interns, residents, house staff, and medical students; follows through on all patients to ensure effective comprehensive medical service; and is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the InternalMedicine Service in rendering treatment and medical care. While working in the InternalMedicine Clinic, incumbent may function as ATTENDING physician for the Internal Medicine Clinic, General Internal Medicine Consult Service, and Internal Medicine Inpatient Ward(s) at various times. In this capacity, direct and accessible supervision must be available to trainees and students in the clinic and on the ward(s). This includes presentation of lectures, chart reviews, and providing input for performance evaluations. While working in the Internal Medicine Clinic, incumbent is CONSULTANT to other clinics in the specialty of Internal Medicine which includes, but is not limited to, pre-operative evaluations,inpatient general medicine consults to other service lines (i.e., Surgery Service, Operative Care Service, etc.), and Emergency Room follow-up consultations. Incumbent answers all questions and screens consults emanating from other clinics and consultants for appropriateness, and with the intent to expedite quality health care. Maintains active, ongoing outpatient clinic schedule in the clinic in which (s) he is working (i.e.,Primary Care Internal Medicine). Is responsible for the long and short-term healthcare needs of his/her patients in the clinic, utilizing the clinic hours to a maximum for patient care. Ensures adequate schedules ensuring Tricare Access standards will be met. Incumbent may function as PRECEPTOR for Internal Medicine trainees assigned to the clinic or ward(s). This may include direction, integration, coordination and evaluation of training activities for medical students,interns, residents, and in service training of medical officers. Responsible for the professional continuing education and development of Staff Providers. Incumbent is actively involved in the Service Line's PE&I programs. PE&I is a JCAHO requirement for maintaining hospital accreditation. As staff of the clinic, (s)he is expected to be an active participant/supporter of all Service Line endeavors to include chart/peer reviews and conducting focused reviews.
