Job Description

Major Duties 1. Performs procedures such as Upper and Lower GI studies, Intravenous Pyelograms, Cystography, Hystereosalpingography, Arthrography, Cholangiograms, Sinograms, Fistulagrams. Prepare the imaging suite. Assure that sterile supplies, contrast materials, catheters, and other required equipment are present and arranged appropriately. May prepare contrast material. Administers contrast under the supervision of the attending physician. Assist radiologists with fluoroscopic and other special radiographic examinations which require the administration of contrast material. Prepares the patient, explains the procedure, sets up the imaging suite and equipment, prepares the contrast material for administration and sets up the sterile field. Assists the radiologist during the procedure and performs follow up imaging independently. 2. Independently performs a variety routine to complex diagnostic radiographic procedures. Assesses patient histories, explains procedures, positions, patients, selects and sets technical factors necessary for the requested procedure. Makes exposure and processes radiographs using Digital Imaging systems and Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) to process the images. Ensures all radiographs demonstrate the required anatomy for dictation by the radiologist. Performs radiographic examinations of the skull, chest, pelvis, spine, and abdomen, upper and lower extremities on patients of all ages with multiple medical problems and demonstrates ability to adjust technical factors when unusual deviations from standard positioning and technical factors are necessary. Perform portable radiographic imaging in the operating room and in other areas of the hospital using the portable x-ray unit or CC-Arm radiographic equipment. Perform mobile intraoperative CT studies utilizing the O-arm mobile CT/fluoroscopy machine. Images patients independently without supervision at four separate satellite clinics. 3. Performs duties, when required, as a Quality Control Technologist, responsible for reviewing all radiographs performed by them or in the department for diagnostic quality prior to interpretation by the radiologist. Applies advanced image manipulation techniques including stitching of scoliosis and full-length leg studies. Instructs staff technologists on which images need to be repeated and for what reason. Maintain repeat records for the department by entering data into the CHCS computer system. Provide assistance to staff technologists on difficult examinations. Maintain the smooth flow of patients into and out of the radiology department by matching images to requests, and logging patients in and out of the department using the computerized CHCS system. Prepares and presents classes to staff members on radiology topics during allotted training time. ( 4. Schedules patients for radiology appointments using the computerized CHCS scheduling system. Explains the examination and discusses instructions with the patient. Consult with the radiologists on any unusual requests. Assists with patient reception and file room duties as needed.
