PURPOSE OF POSITION AND ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION: The primary purpose of this position is: To provide general and focused respiratory protection testing, data management and recommendations for Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and tenant organizations and to assist in developing and managing occupational and environmental health related data. The organizational location of this position is: PACAF, 673 Air Base Wing, 673 Medical Group, 673 Operational Medical Readiness Squadron, Bioenvironmental Engineering Flight, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. ORGANIZATIONAL GOALS OR OBJECTIVES: The organizational goals or objectives of this position are: To enhance force health protection through the identification, evaluation, and control of occupational and environmental health hazards. DUTIES Under the general supervision of a senior industrial hygienist, executes the industrial respirator and gas mask fit testing program in accordance with Federal OSHA and Air Force regulations and guidance. Performs required industrial respirator and gas mask fit testing; Ensures complete and accurate input of fit test data into approved tracking systems; Maintains respirators and gas masks and associated fit testing equipment in serviceable condition, and identifies requirements for new or replacement parts and equipment; Evaluates the adequacy of current respiratory protection operating instructions, plans, procedures, and regulations and advises supervision on deficiencies and improvement opportunities; Prepares oral and written reports on industrial respirator and gas mask programs. Collects and tracks respiratory protection program data under the general supervision of a senior industrial hygienist. Confers with a senior industrial hygienist in developing and/or maintaining specialized computer applications to include databases, spreadsheets and web-based applications; Researches web-based as well as hard copy reference literature and identifies possible approaches to the control of harmful exposures from chemical, physical, and biological health hazards found in medical, industrial, administrative, and residential facilities and operations; Participates as a health sciences representative on committees, work groups, and task forces; Evaluates the adequacy of current operating procedures, plans, and instructions and advises supervision on deficiencies; Prepares written and oral reports on activities, findings, and recommendations. Under the general supervision of a senior industrial hygienist, conducts surveys, audits, assessments of facilities and operations to identify and evaluate potential occupational and environmental health hazards and risks. Determines adequacy of and/or need for control measures or changes in work practices, operations; or facility conditions; Drives government vehicle to site visits. Applies knowledge of industrial hygiene and environmental sampling methods, materials, and equipment to assess and quantify noise, radiation, chemical, biological, air contaminants, ergonomic, and other occupational and environmental health stressors; Develops sampling strategies and performs sampling using indirect or direct reading instruments to quantify hazards; Interprets results/observations and determines compliance with applicable regulations; Prepares oral and written reports of surveys, audits, assessments that describe the operations, hazards, and health risks.
