Job Description

Duties - Provide guidance and leadership to professional and non-paraprofessional staff. - Serve occasionally as the Charge Nurse while determining patient care assignments based on the qualifications, capabilities, and skills of available staff. - Perform duties in inpatient obstetrics Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) Unit, providing comprehensive specialized nursing care to routine through high risk antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum obstetrical patients and their infants. - Provide nursing care for pregnancy induced hypertension, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, gestational diabetes, multiple gestation, postpartum hemorrhage, uterine rupture, amniotic emboli, high/low birth weights, and infants requiring protective isolation. - Teach patients and family members about disease processes, normal newborn and postpartum care, pre and post-operative cares, pre and post diagnostic procedures; expected and possible adverse reactions to medications and health promotion. - Perform newborn physical assessments.. - Set up, operate and maintain a variety of medical equipment in the labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum unit to included fetal-monitors, respiratory and oxygen therapy equipment, intravenous infusion pumps, suctions, infant warmers, delivery tables. - Obtain information from patients and/or family to identify chief complaints, symptoms, or reason for seeking health care. - Document patients' chief complaints and pertinent information (to include medication reconciliation, screening tools, and behavioral health intake surveys) in the electronic health record. - Take vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, pain level, height, weight, measurement of head circumference and length); perform a behavioral health screening. - Provide individualized nursing care to patients based upon the physician's medical plan, the nursing assessment and the physical, mental and emotional needs of the patient. - Screen and review immunization record and administer immunizations to all age groups, administer medications, oxygen, and/or intravenous (IV) fluid via prescribed routes. - Retrieve information from health information systems such as laboratory and diagnostic procedure results. - Provide patient education on health promotion and disease management. - Assist physician with various examinations, diagnostic procedures, and/or minor surgical procedures. - Perform care coordination activities such as referral management, order reconciliation, and activity tracking PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED..
