HEADLINE:   Baltimore, MD:  Interventional PM&R is needed to join a large teaching hospital’s well-established PM&R teaching department.  They currently have 12 physicians plus various support staff.  This is mostly outpatient.  An interventional fellowship required!  Experience preferred but is not required.  Employed by this state-of-the art teaching hospital.  $ They are offering very competitive salary, work RVU productivity, full benefits, etc.   Excellent earning potential.

PRACTICE OPPORTUNITY:

  • Located in Baltimore, Maryland, an interventional PM&R physician is needed to join a large teaching hospital’s well-established PM&R teaching department.

  • They currently have 12 PM&R physicians plus various support staff. 

  • Interventional fellowship training is a requirement.

  • As mentioned above, their office is located on the campus of their large teaching hospital.   

  • This very well-regarded teaching hospital is part of a large healthcare system.

  • Although an experienced interventional PM&R physician is preferred, it is not a requirement.  Interventional fellows and interventional PM&R physicians who already have work experience are all welcome to apply and will all be strongly considered.

  • This is mostly an outpatient opportunity.  There is some support for inpatient procedures and ED.

  • There is also opportunity to develop a Spine Center in collaboration with Neurosurgery!

  • This stellar teaching hospital’s department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation offers a wide array of inpatient and outpatient services utilizing state-of-the-art procedures to include imaging with fluoro, ultrasound! 

  •  Conditions treated include:

    • Arthritis
    • Back pain
    • Neck pain
    • Work-related injury
    • Facet syndrome - A biomechanical problem in the lower back in which the vertebrae override one another, reducing the size of the channels for nerves.
    • Radiculopathy - Pain, numbness, tingling or weakness caused by a compressed nerve in the spine. 
    • Neuropathic/post–herpetic pain - Pain originating from nerves damaged such as after a viral outbreak like shingles.
    • Reflex sympathetic dystrophy - Pain, swelling, and vasomotor dysfunction of an extremity often the result of trauma or surgery.

  • Procedures include:

    •  Joint injections
    • Trigger point injections
    • Botox® - For involuntary muscle stiffness.
    • Fluoroscopic-guided Spinal Injections
    • Steroid injections
    • Facet blocks
    • Radio frequency rhizotomy - Using a highly localized heat generated with radiofrequency to deaden the degenerative nerves in the facet joints of the spine, effectively disconnecting the transmission of pain signals.
    • Discogram
    • Sympathetic blocks
    • Electromyography/Nerve Conduction Study
    • Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation - Stimulates the nerves, scrambling the pain signals sent to the brain, and encouraging the release of endorphins.
    • Epidural
    • Phenol nerve block
    • Baclofen pump management

  • All their PM&R physicians in this group are all employed by this state-of-the art teaching hospital.  

  • This very well-regarded teaching hospital is part of a large healthcare system.

  • They are offering a very competitive starting base salary.  It will be commensurate with the Physiatrist’s experience.

  • There is also an RVU-based productivity incentive.
