Practice Information: Twenty-five bed hospital located in southwestern Kansas seeking to employ family physician with OB and C-section experience. Staff consists of 7 physicians and 7 mid-level providers. Inpatient and outpatient medicine required. Physicians' average treating 22 patients per day and call. Approximately 300 deliveries per year. There is limited primary call (Sunday after 1700), and backup call for ER. OB call is currently 1 in 6.

It has a stable and progressive board, administration, and medical staff who is all committed to the mental, physical, and spiritual health of the people in our region. KCH delivers babies from 10 southwest Kansas counties, some as far as 100 miles away. The reputation of our medical providers has resulted in a strong regional draw.
Furthermore, a Tyson Beef Plant, which is located in Holcomb, 20 miles east of KCH, employees 3,200 people, 85% of whom are immigrants from 22 countries. Some of the nationalities represented are Burma, Ethiopia, Sudan, Mexico, Vietnam, the Philippines, Guatemala, and Somalia. Many of these people seek care at Kearny County Hospital, beginning with their childbirth experiences.
Prior to COVID-19, our medical providers chose to spend some of their paid time off each year serving those aforementioned underserved countries, knowing that most of their practice involves serving the same people in our own neighborhood. Some of us intend to spend the rest of our lives serving in rural America, sometimes traveling abroad a few weeks per year for mission work.
Geographic Information: Lakin (population 2, 216) serves as the county seat of Kearny County. The city of Lakin has much to offer including a top-rated school system, a beautiful golf course, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, fitness centers, shooting range, hunting, fishing and much more. Even better, you are less than 30 minutes from Garden City with dozens of restaurants, entertainment venues and major shopping chains.
One should keep in mind that new residents in Kearny County may qualify for financial incentive programs (Rural Opportunity Zone) that include Kansas Income Tax Waivers and Student Loan Repayments. In addition, the Neighborhood Revitalization Program offers incentives for citizens and businesses for substantially upgrading, adding to or building new properties in the county.
Salary: $175K base and $250,000-$300,000 including bonuses
PTO & CME: 10 weeks total per year
