MAJOR DUTIES 1. RADIOGRAPHIC OPERATIONS. Sets up X-ray room. Performs a comprehensive scope of diagnostic radiologic procedures employing equipment which emits ionizing radiation. Takes intra and extra-oral radiographs, as well as panoramic and cephalometric x-rays, conforming to established techniques for qualitative diagnosis. Cleans, disinfects, sterilizes x-ray equipment and instruments. Coordinates the procurement and proper storage of X-ray materials and supplies. Performs first echelon maintenance in the dental operatory and x-ray rooms. 2. PATIENT CARE AND SAFETY. Receives and explains x-ray procedures to patients. Shields patients and staff from unnecessary radiation. Correctly positions patients and materials to achieve proper photographic angles. 3. DENTAL ASSISTING. Assists dentist provide treatments to patients. Procedures may include complex restorative procedures, oral pathology, prosthodontic, periodontic, endodontic, pedodontic, or orthodontic treatments in the dental treatment room, using knowledge of a large array of specialized instruments, materials, and dental techniques. Operates and adjusts dental and radiographic equipment. Monitors patients to detect signs of shock or reactions to treatments. 4. REPORTS AND RECORD KEEPING. Maintains records of patients examined, views taken, and technical factors used. Preserves x-ray records in accordance with established policy. 5. TRAINING AND MENTORING. Provides training, mentoring, and orientation to less experienced staff on x-ray techniques; procedures and principles; storage/issue of associated supplies; and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.
