Job Description

A medical services organization in New York City is currently seeking a new Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC / CASAC-T) for a promising opportunity with their growing staff in Queens. In this role, the Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC / CASAC-T) will be responsible for assisting the Clinical Director with administrative functions, monitoring the changing needs of the population and program, and assisting in staffing and scheduling of the day-to-day operations of clinical programs.


The Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC / CASAC-T) will:
  • Conduct daily rounds with staff and uses that as a forum for staff supervision and education
  • Assist the Clinical Director in ensuring that all charting is complete, timely and accurate by completing chart reviews on a regular basis
  • Maintain daily and weekly staff schedule, patient and work assignments, vacation approval, and time and attendance monitoring
  • Report clinical/departmental problems, concerns, documentation deficiencies, solutions, recommendations, and staffing needs to the Clinical Director
  • Assist the Clinical Director in conducting investigations of patient/staff concerns especially related to patient safety issues
  • Design, develop and implement an ongoing training curriculum
  • Provide biweekly supervision and performance appraisals
  • Maintain records of rounds, staff meetings, supervisions and evaluations
  • Assist the Clinical Director in the overall function of the department and provide coverage in the absence of the Clinical Director
  • Perform other assignments, as delegated or required
  • 1+ year of relevant work experience
  • Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree
  • NYS Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC and/or CASAC-T)
  • Experience working with the Controlled Substance Abuse, Substance Abuse, and/or Chemically Dependent population
  • Solid assessment and documentation skills
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly organized
