Job Description

Just In Time Staffing has received a contract to provider the Minneapolis VA Health Care System with Professional Nursing Services as follows:


  • 2 Step-Down/PICU Registered Nurses


  • 3:30pm to midnight
  • 11:30am to 8pm
  • 10 shifts bi-weekly


  • Current, unrestricted RN license from U.S. State or territory
  • Current BLS and ACLS thru AHA approved course
  • Minimum of Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) with BSN preferred.
  • Preferred experience in acute patient population, telemetry or critical care.
  • Current resume in mo/yr format with gaps of 30+ explained. Also much have work history, education, and competencies listed
  • A minimum of 3 clinical references including name, phone #, and email address
  • Evidence of current required immunizations
  • A written statement of prior training for OSHA to include occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens and the date training was completed as well as COVID-19 Emergency Temporary Standard
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.


  • Six-month base period plus six-month option period to start. Dependent upon budget, contract assignments may extend longer.
  • Start date pending credentialing and clearance with an anticipated start date by the beginning of May 2022.


  • Hourly rate $85.00 to $95.00 plus benefits
  • Willing to consider both local and travel nurses with travel/lodging stipend provided to nurses who reside more than 50 miles from facility.


  • This RN position is located at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System on Medical Stepdown Unit 3K. Ward 3K is medical stepdown unit that promotes transitional patient care from acute med-surg to critical care. This unit serves as an important component of the continuum of care in the Medical Center. The purpose of this unit is to provide nursing care to veterans experiencing acute medical/surgical conditions; patients requiring close 24/7 observation, skilled nursing care, continuous cardiac monitoring, intermittent/continuous cardiac IV medications, close respiratory monitoring and specialized procedures. Care is ongoing and encompasses varying states of recuperation from diagnosis to treatment and promotion of health, recovery, or a peaceful death. This goal is accomplished through the prompt detection of emergency conditions; preventing complications associated with disease and disorder; performing required diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; educating patient/family to improve self-care abilities, health maintenance and rehabilitation; and facilitating discharge from the acute care setting.

a. Insertion and/or care of urinary drainage devices and care (condom catheters, intermittent catheters, foley catheters, suprapubic catheters, nephrostomy tubes)
b. Diabetic management and teaching
c. Management of gastric, intestinal, and/or percutaneous drainage and feeding tubes
d. Administration & Monitoring of High Risk Medications (including titrating drips)
e. Cardiac/Telemetry Monitoring is part of this position and can be trained upon hire
f. Advanced Vascular Access Care and Maintenance
g. (BLS/ACLS) certification is required for this position and can be obtained upon hire
h. Facilitation of Homecare referrals and recommendations to support ongoing veteran needs
i. Demonstrates professional communication and conduct
j. Recognizes and supports Suicide Prevention initiatives
k. Work collaboratively with all levels of health care professional and support staff to facilitate positive patient care outcomes.
l. Compliance with various Isolation Precautions and Infection Control Guidelines
m. Skills in time management, priority setting, assessment and urgent intervention are essential for this unit
n. Maintains prevention & management of disruptive behavior skills, can be trained upon hire
o. Patient and caregiver education and support.
p. Participation in High Reliability Organization (HRO) & professional governance initiatives
q. Promotes evidence-based best practices and nurse sensitive indicators (including but not limited to Falls Prevention, Hospital Associated Infection Prevention, Medication error prevention, Safe Patient Handling, and Skin Safety)
