Portland, Oregon - Providence Health & Services is seeking an exceptional Surgical Oncologist with leadership experience to direct the surgical oncology program at the Providence Cancer Center, our brand new dedicated facility on the Providence Portland Medical Center campus. Seeking physician with fellowship training in surgical oncology and proven leadership skills to provide strategic direction aimed at growing the program. Excellent salary and benefits package. The new Cancer Center, which opened in February 2008, brings the full spectrum of cancer detection, treatment, recovery and research under one roof. No other cancer center on the West Coast offers the breadth of technology found here. We're the first in the Northwest to begin using Gamma Knife Perfexion. Our 21 new surgical suites function as multimedia command centers that are wired in to nursing stations and labs.That way, technicians and nursing staff can monitor and assist with every operation. The Director of Surgical Oncology will work with the Cancer Center leadership to set the vision for surgical oncology, including strategic planning, program development, research, outcomes measurements, quality initiatives, affordability, and other aspects that might impact the Center. Directorship duties will likely be 25 hours per week, with the remainder of time for clinical activities in the physician's major area of interest. The qualified candidate should have a proven record of strong leadership capability in an academic environment, fellowship training in surgical oncology, evidence of academic scholarship including prior research activity with publications, grant submissions and invitations to speak at national meetings.
