The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care at this North Carolina School of Medicine seeks medical intensivists to join a busy and growing division and hospital system. The Division currently consists of 7 faculty and the MICU is located at the County Hospital, which is adjacent to the school of medicine. This opportunity is driven by the addition of a new cardiovascular hospital and the expansion of medical ICU to 24 beds, addition of a ventilator weaning unit as well as an emergency response team.

The applicant must be a BC/BE intensivist/pulmonologist with strong clinical and procedural skills in all facets of critical care. This is an academic position at a single institution and applicants should qualify for appointment at the assistant or associate professor level.

The candidate will be active in rounding with a multidisciplinary team including fellows and medicine housestaff as well as coordinating administrative and quality assurance duties. The person will be encouraged/expected to initiate and engage in scholarly activities including clinical trials, outcomes studies, as well as participate in translational research studies involving an established pulmonary biology laboratory.

The affiliated teaching hospital, is a 831-bed tertiary referral center for a 29-county region. The hospital is a level I trauma center with a large cancer center and cardiovascular disease program. This county medical hospital is one of the top 50 teaching hospitals in the United States.

The school of medicine is part of a large, public doctoral university with an enrollment of more than 28,000 students

Applicants will need to be eligible for a North Carolina medical license. The ideal candidate must be a personable leader with excellent communication and teaching skills and a strong commitment to excellent patient care. The ability to think outside the box, multitask, and follow through is imperative.
