One of NMMC-Hamiltons greatest strengths is the quality of its medical staff. The medical staff offers specialists in family practice, internal medicine, pathology, pediatrics, surgery and radiology. Already in 2007, the Hospital has earned a $700,000 improvement to the bottom line.
NMMC- Hamilton has 8 active medical physicians and a $44 M operating budget. NMMC- Hamilton averages 7,000 ER visits per year and 1,100 Hospital admissions. Adjacent to the hospital is the Hamilton Medical Clinic. The out-patient business is up for 2007. Outpatient services include physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, laboratory and pulmonary rehabilitation. Radiology services include echocardiogram, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, mammography, MRI, bone density and computerized tomography (CT). The Outpatient Specialty Clinic, which is located on the hospital campus, offers services such as audiology, ENT, ophthalmology and urology. The hospital campus also includes Hamilton Medical Clinic and Marion Medical Clinic, which are two of more than 30 medical clinics affiliated with North Mississippi Medical Clinics Inc. in Tupelo.
In 2005, NMMC-Hamilton opened a $7.5 million expansion project, which involved a two-story, 32,000-square-foot expansion and renovation. The new construction provided for 32 private in patient rooms and a four-bed Intensive Care Unit, along with new facilities for admissions, business services, radiology and rehab services.
NMMC-Hamilton also recognizes the importance of promoting good health through education.
Community outreach projects include informative health seminars and screenings. A variety of classes cover such topics as CPR, first aid, heart health, cancer and diabetes education, nutrition and others. While some programs are sponsored solely by NMMC-Hamilton, others reflect collaborative efforts with other interested parties such as employers, area schools and organizations.

North Mississippi Health Services (NMHS), is a not-for-profit corporation, which operates a multi-dimensional health organization. NMHS provides a continuum of care to 600,000 residents in north Mississippi, northwest Alabama and portions of Tennessee. The NMHS corporate umbrella covers a broad range of acute dialysis and therapeutic services offered through NMMC, a community hospital system, and North Mississippi Medical Clinics, North Mississippi Dialysis Services, NMMC Home Agency and NMHS nursing homes. NMHS has approximately 300 physicians on staff representing 45 different medical and surgical specialties.
NMMC, the flagship hospital of the NMHS system, is a 650-bed regional referral center in Tupelo, Mississippi. It holds the distinction of being the largest hospital in the state, the largest non-metropolitan hospital in the America, and NMHS is the nations third largest rural health care system. NMMC s 2006 operating revenue was $1.2 billion.
THE COMPENSATION
Compensation includes a signing bonus, an annual guarantee base salary per year for initially two years plus a production bonus based on charges. Sign on bonus usually range from $40,000.
The FP physician can earn additional compensation in addition to their salary with ER coverage. The benefits package accounts for another $50,000-$60,000.
By the end of the two year contract period, the FP physician can be earning a realistic compensation of $200,000 plus. The current physicians are averaging anywhere from $140,000 - $300,000 in compensation.
Signing bonus or Loan repayment - Physician can use the up front money for either option. Alabama Physician are allowed a $5,000 State Income Tax credit. Federal Program to assist physicians in the full repayment of their loan. Three physicians within the Health System have already qualified.

THE CLINIC
The Family Practitioner is an employed physician reporting to North Mississippi Health Services to join a very successful primary care practice called Hamilton Medical Clinic which is affiliated with NMMC-Hamilton.
All overhead costs such as rent, billings, and employees, medical records, taxes, are handled administratively. The FP physician sole responsibility is to practice medicine. A 1 in 5-call coverage arrangement provides the physician with quality personal time.
All critical care patients needing services beyond the capabilities of NMMC - Hamilton are helicoptered to Medical Center in Tupelo. The Hamilton Medical Clinic provides the following services below:

Nebulizer/pulmonary treatments

The physician is likely to spend his time treating on average 6 to 8 in-patients at the hospital. The rest of his time will be spent at the Clinic treating on average 25 patients per day. Consults average 1 to 2 patients per week.
The Health Clinic has an excellent payer mix consisting of the following:

The Clinic is currently composed of 4 physicians.. The 4 physicians are a 1 FP's, 1 Internist, GS, and a Pediatrician. The Clinic has 14 exam rooms and each physician has his own office, full time nurse and an electronic medical system along with digital transmission to the Radiologists at NMHS in Tupelo. In other words, a paperless environment. The facility is state-of-the-art. NMMC - Hamilton is one of the most modern, well - equipped hospitals in AL.
THE CANDIDATE
The candidate can be a M.D. Board Eligible or Board Certified or D.O. Family Practitioner. It is essential that the incumbent be willing to treat all cases of FP. Not necessary to do any OB in this setting. The new physician will practice within fully equipped offices, with a well-trained and efficient staff in a medical building near the Hospital. The successful candidate will have a caring attitude and be empathetic to the needs of patients. The ideal candidate will also possess a pro-active attitude, strong communication skills and a collaborative service orientation. A familiarity with southern culture would be helpful but not necessary.
THE COMMUNITY
Hamilton is the county seat for 6 counties. In a few years, a super highway I- 22, will connect Birmingham and Memphis, which will spur the growth of the past few years. Inquiries from retirees and industry continue to pour in as people find the attractiveness and ease of living in town a definite plus. The service area is 30,000 plus. In general, people are discovering that a successful economy and the gentle, safe small town atmosphere can truly be a reality.

Hamilton is located 50 miles from Tupelo, MS., 93 miles from Birmingham, AL., home to the University of Alabama at Birmingham and 80 miles from Tuscaloosa, where the University of Alabama is located. Bevill State Community College, located across the street from the Hospital, has a strong Nursing Program as well as Allied Health Programs. Commercial flights are available in Tupelo, located an hour away by car. The area is strikingly beautiful and is considered a recreational paradise for individuals interested in hunting, fishing, boating, hiking or just getting away from it all in a quiet, serene, safe environment. New homes on the lake range from 1/2 M to less than $200,000. Fishing tournaments are held at area waterways throughout the year. Just a short distance from Hamilton is some of the most interesting and historical sites in the South. Shiloh Battlefield and Military Park offer Civil War buffs a treasure of history.
