A full-time board certified/elgible OB-GYN physician is needed to join our private practice of five OB-GYN's in Ottumwa, Iowa. Call would be 1:5. We are the only OB-GYN practice for an area at least 50 miles in radius and serve about 11 southeast Iowa counties and northeast Missouri!
The candidate should have an interest in general obstetrical practice, full scope of general gynecology, and office procedures including LEEP, Essure, Novasure, etc. Laparoscopic surgical skills certainly desired, but not mandatory. In addition to the above, office services also include full-time excellent ultrasonographers, urodynamic equipment with tech available, and excellent support staff.
The medical center is Ottumwa Regional Health Center (ORHC). It is a 200 bed facility with six LDR rooms, a Women and Family Center (ob-gyn and peds floor), level II nursery (we deliver from 34 weeks onward), 24 hour anesthesia and epidural coverage, full diagnostic radiology and laboratory services. We do about 750 deliveries per year. Cancer center with chemotherapy and radiation therapy on site. We have an excellent visiting perinatology practice once a month from Des Moines which we utilize for all high risk pregnancies. We also have an excellent university service at the University of Iowa about 80 miles away.
The practice was established 37 years ago. We have had essentially no turnover except two retirements. We lease space in a medical clinic building that is conveniently attached to ORHC. We practice out of only one hospital, the only one in town. The compensation includes $250,000 per year, medical insurance and malpractice insurance to include a $10,000 signing bonus and up to $10,000 moving expense reimbursement. Partnership would generally be offered after the first year. If it is offered and accepted, the candidate would then receive a bonus check for the first year's production. Buy in is $30,000 for fixed assets plus accounts receivable. Our only requirement for scheduling is that the candidate do 1/5 of the new obstetrical exams and return OB visits in addition to 1/5 of the call. Gynecology is full production. You can work as little or as much as you want, and earn accordingly. We have the ususal compliment of referral specialtists available in town.
Ottumwa is a city of 25,000 located along and in the Des Moines River valley. It is very scenic with affordable housing and ag land available. We are about 60 miles from Iowa City and 80 miles from Des Moines. Des Moines is the capital with international airport, shopping, and subspecialists. We are connected by a four lane freeway to Des Moines and southeast Iowa. Easy to reach destinations include Chicago, St Louis, Kansas City, and Minneapolis. Amtrak goes through town. Ottumwa is the area's retail hub. We have an excellent two year community college- Indian Hills Community College. This region is especially known for outdoor, four season activities including hunting, hiking, camping, biking, etc.
