Providence Health & Services
Olympia, Washington -- Providence Health & Services and a long-established private neurology practice are partnering to bring an excellent BE/BC Stroke Neurologist to serve this southwest Washington community. We are looking for a neurologist with a vascular/stroke fellowship, or a general neurologist with passion and experience in stroke care to practice general neurology and take a leadership position in the stroke program at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. Current stroke medical director is interested in scaling back his practice, but wants to ensure the program is turned over to capable hands.
The private group is comprised of six neurologists based in Olympia with satellite offices 20 miles away in Centralia, Washington, and another office 15 miles away in Shelton, Washington. The practice is the only group of full-time neurologists in the market area. The primary market is the Olympia area which has a metro population of approximately 250,000 in a more urban, white-collar environment. The secondary market is a more rural, blue-collar environment extending from Olympia to near the southern and western borders of Washington state. The group has relationships with multiple community and critical access hospitals, including two operated by Providence: Providence St. Peter in Olympia and Providence Centralia Hospital in Centralia.
The practice covers call at Providence St. Peter Hospital and Capital Medical Center in Olympia. Call is 1:5 weekdays and 1:8 weekends. The vast majority of calls come from Providence St. Peter Hospital, and a few calls each year come from Capital Medical Center. The group actively participates in clinical research and is involved with teaching neurology students and residents from the University of Washington. There are also teaching opportunities with a University of Washington affiliated family practice residency program at the hospital.
Providence St. Peter Hospital is a Joint Commission Stroke Certified tertiary care center that was recently awarded NeuStrategy's 2007 Center of Excellence award for stroke; CareScience's 2006 Top Performer Award in Ischemic Stroke; and 2006 Select Practice Award for Patient Care Excellence. The stroke program was organized in 1996, and performs intra-arterial as well as intravenus tPA treatments. The hospital boasts a neuroscience program, a dedicated acute neuro unit, and modern diagnostic equipment such as 64-slice CT, 1.5t MRI, angiography, ultrasound, and intra-operative monitoring. 3t MRI is available locally. Olympia is located on the southern tip of scenic Puget Sound, which offers an abundance of saltwater activities from beachcombing to salmon fishing and sailing. The magnificent Olympic and Cascade Mountain ranges also provide amazing scenery and recreation opportunities. Olympia has a population of 43,000, small enough to see your neighbors around town, big enough to offer an abundance of culture and entertainment. And, for those really big city amenities, both Seattle and Portland, Oregon, are about 90 minutes away by car.
