Tennessee Neurology

The compliment of neurologists in Columbia has shrunk from 4 to 1 over the past 3 years. When that compliment dropped to 2, our physicians (along with every physician in a 6 county area) experienced a waiting period of 3-4 months in order to schedule patients in their offices and the staff subsequently asked us to recruit. This is unique as a side in that our Medical Staff has rarely approached us in force about recruiting, particularly as it relates to a subspecialty like neurology. Now this situation has eroded into a crisis but has created even a greater opportunity in Pulaski. Beyond Columbia, one must travel to Nashville for an appointment.

There are approximately 31,000+ residents in our immediate service area, which in itself would not justify the need for full-time neurology. GMENAC indicates a need in our population for .9 of a neurologist. However, the market conditions are ripe for a strong candidate to enjoy a regional presence. Besides Columbia and the community to our west, the rest of our region is depending on the very few neurologists in Columbia. The neurologist that chooses Pulaski will have free range to accommodate these patients in addition to our hospitals service area. We sincerely believe there is more than enough area demand to justify the addition of a new Neurologist.

Existing Medical Staff By-Laws stipulate that all staff physicians must be Board certified in their respective specialties. The one exception to this requirement allows for the recruitment of a non-Boarded physician so long as they are Board eligible and are within five years of their most recent formal training. The successful candidate will not only have completed the requisite training, but must also demonstrate a willingness to become actively integrated into the community.

In addition to the development of a practice in general Neurology, the ideal candidate can participate in working at the Lawrenceburg rehab center, pain management and stroke rehab all at the discretion of the candidate.
