Providence St. Vincent Medical Center is Oregon's oldest (founded in 1875) and largest (523 beds) hospital. It also provides some of the state's most advanced services and is one of the most decorated facilities in the nation - it has been named a Top 100 Hospital nine times by Thomson Healthcare (formerly Solucient). Conveniently located near Highway 26 in west Portland, Providence St. Vincent is home to the world-renowned Providence Heart and Vascular Institute, Providence Brain Institute and other "centers of excellence."
Portland has a metro population over two million, but it has managed to maintain strong local neighborhoods and a close connection to nature. Consequently, the city consistently ranks high in national "livability" contests. Popular Science magazine named Portland the greenest city in America. No city of comparable size offers residents cleaner air and water and an all-around healthy environment, according to Earth Day Network. Portland has been named the most bicycle- and dog-friendly big city as well. With high urban culture and easy access to vast evergreen forests, the Pacific Ocean and sun-drenched central Oregon, it's easy to see why Portland is so popular.
Providence St. Vincent and the Providence Brain Institute are part of Providence Health & Services, a not-for-profit network of hospitals, clinics and physician partners in Alaska, California, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
