Hospital based EMS squad in addition to EMS training program. 41,000 annual ED visits represent a broad mix of patient pathology and 20-25% of patients seen in the ED are admitted, which comprise 80% of the hospital census.
Currently the program consists of 6 physicians providing 24/7 coverage with no night call. Shifts are 7 am to 7 pm and 7 pm to 7 am 7 days on and 7 days off. The Hospitalist Team provides service response for codes, consultations, inpatient episodic medical care, ICU procedures, unassigned ED call and patient admission/discharge. Average patient census is 18-22 patients per physician.
Wood County is located in the northwestern tip of the Mid-Ohio Valley and is conveniently located within a two-hour drive from Columbus and Pittsburgh. This accounts for an unusually mild climate that is significantly warmer than Pittsburgh and Wheeling to the north and Bluefield to the south. Metro area has a population of approximately 60,000. Community schools offer similarly diverse educational opportunities with programs for the gifted as well as the physically challenged. Private and parochial schools are also available locally.
