Upstate NY- Located 5.5 hrs from NYC. A unique hospitalist opportunity exists to become part of the general medicine unit and multispecialty faculty team in Upper New York. Hospitalists in this program are not typical house physicians working like interns on specific shifts, but rather attending physicians backed up by PA's, NP's and residents. Each hospitalist rotates on different rotations and each is a little different. These rotations include: caring for observation patients from 9 am - 5 pm, providing consultations (with a resident) to other services; teaching attending (supervising a resident team from 8 am to 6 pm). ***One of the rotations, the only one based on evening hours is supervising a night team of residents from 8 pm to 8 am for 7 straight nights followed by some time off. Each hospitalist is expected to do 4 such night rotations during the course of the year. Finally, hospitalists will do a non-teaching rotation; they would be expected to follow a team of patients with help from a PA/NP. The job can be done from 9 am to 5 pm as there are no teaching responsibilities during this period. Since the general medicine unit maintains a physician in the hospital 24/7, there are no on-call responsibilities from home. A guaranteed compensation will be $154,000 plus additional incentive pay based on clinical revenues; averaging $20K/yr. ***The $154,000 figure is predicated on doing 4 weeks of nights @ $6000 each (equaling $24,000). There is the option to pick more of the night rotations, which would increase the guaranteed compensation.

Currently, the Hospitalist program works out of Orange Regional Medical Center. Hospitalists work a block schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off. Shifts are 12 hours in length, 7A-7P and 7P-7A. Seeking to add 2 more hospitalists to the existing four. They are moving to a block schedule of 7on/7off with 12 hour shifts once they have 6 hospitalists. They cover 2 facilities. They are ideally seeking physicians with 2-6 yrs experience. One physician covers both hospitals at night. About 20 inpatients/day and the other has about 10 inpatients/day. The physician must be comfortable with managing critical patients, central line placements, intubations, etc. Salary is about $150k depending on experience. They pay standard full range of benefits. They are looking for someone who is committed to moving and living in the area. They are not interested in people living further away and commuting for the week they are on. They would consider residents iF they are committed to staying and working as a hospitalist for a career and not a temporary place until they start a fellowship.
