KRC.1208.0704.10 General Surgeon position available at a hospital-owned practice. Candidates can expect to do a variety of general surgical procedures as experienced by most rural-based general surgery practices. The 92-bed hospital offers outstanding care to patients while providing a positive enjoyable work environment for employees. Their state-of-the-art facilities provide exceptional service commonly found at a larger facility, yet with the hometown appeal and personal service you would expect from a smaller hospital.

The hospital services inlcude: Bariatric surgery, Sleep Lab, Womens Health Center with LDRP's and educational facilities, Acute care - medical and surgical, Intensive Care Unit, Surgery Center, Cardiopulmonary Center, Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging (CT, Ultrasound, Vascular Ultrasound, X-Ray Units, Nuclear Medicine, MRI, Dedicated and accredited Mammography Unit, Bone Densitometer), Rehabilitation Center, 24-hour ER coverage by family practice physicians, Home Health (skilled nursing, PT, OT, speech, aide, homemaker services), Speech Pathology and Audiology, Part-time clinics (Audiology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Neurology, Oncology, Opthalmalogy, Oral Surgery, Orthotics, Pediatric Cardiology, Podiatry, Urology, VA Clinic), Senior Health Center, and Occupational Health Clinic.

The community and hospital are growing. The hospital service area is 45,000 and they expect 30,000 new residents within the next six years. In December 2008, the hospital will double in size with the addition of a 110,000 sq. ft. expansion including a new surgery center with four operating rooms, two procedure rooms, and 16 pre-op/post-op beds, a new 6-bed ICU, and a new 36-bed, all-private-room med/surg unit.

There are currently three general surgeons on staff. The hospital prefers a surgeon who has experience in or is willing to be trained in Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and LAP-BAND surgeries. The salary range is competitive with a RVU bonus. Benefits include loan repayment, relocation, CME allowance, two weeks vacation, and full employee benefits offered by the hospital. Community Comments: This community is located in Northeast Kansas, within driving distance of Topeka and Kansas City. Favorite past-times are raising and riding horses, lake activites, hunting, fishing, sports, theater, and shopping. Children's sports are very popular and plentiful as well. There is a large free Independence Day celebration held here as well. It lasts four days and includes a water show, large parade, music and food in the park, kids activities, and more.
