Chippenham is the only Richmond hospital to be named four times to Solucients 100 Top Hospitals: Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success. The OB service is also very active with a 15-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Chippenham Medical Center and Johnston-Willis Hospital together form the CJW Medical Center. With 748 beds and two medical campuses, CJW admits more patients, delivers more babies, and performs more heart surgeries than any other hospital in Richmond. CJW is also the only hospital in the area to receive Primary Stroke Center Certification from JCAHO.
The Emergency Department is the second busiest in the metro-Richmond area with an annual patient volume of 45,000 adult visits and 17,500 pediatric visits. The state-of-the-art department is fully equipped and has recently been expanded to 32 beds that are segregated into pediatrics, intermediate, and critical care. Due to its location on the outskirts of town, there are a variety of acute cases presented to the department with general medicine, acute medicine, and orthopedics being the majority of the cases seen. A 7-bed pediatric emergency department, staffed by a qualified pediatrician, is available and is staffed 24 hours daily. MRI, labs, and radiology are available 24 hours daily.
