Hospital Description:
Johnston-Willis Hospital, just 15 minutes from downtown Richmond, is located on a 50-acre campus in the beautiful suburb Chesterfield County. The hospital has been HCA-owned since 1968. Johnston Willis has active oncology, pulmonary and cardiac services, and the hospitals Thomas Johns Cancer Center has received the American College of Surgeons highest level of accreditation for community cancer centers. Johnston-Willis Hospital and Chippenham Medical Center together form the CJW Medical Center. With 748 beds and 2 medical campuses, CJW admits more patients, delivers more babies, and performs more heart surgeries than any other hospital in Richmond. CJW is also the only hospital in the area to receive Primary Stroke Center Certification from JCAHO.
The Emergency Department has an annual patient volume of 30,000 visits and is designated as Level III Trauma Center. Less than 5% of patients are self paying. The majority of the cases seen are general medicine, 15% pediatrics, and orthopedics. The recently renovated department consists of 29 beds, including a 4 bed Fast Track. All non-fast track beds have central monitoring. Nearly 50% of admitted patients to the hospital are from the Emergency Department. There is a hospitalist program for un-referred admissions. Radiology, MRIs, and labs are available 24 hours daily.

The population of Richmond is approximately 400,000 and the service area of the greater Richmond area is close to 1 million residents. With the largest school system in the area, Chesterfield County is known for its educational benefits. Due to its close proximity to the city, there are endless possibilities for entertainment on days off; from AAA baseball games with the Richmond Braves to white water rafting down the James River there is definitely something for everyone. In addition, three major theme parks, Washington D.C., Virginia Beach, and the Blue Ridge Mountains are all less than a two-hour drive away.

Qualifications:
Residency-trained, board-eligible or board-certified in Emergency Medicine.
