Hospital Description:
The Retreat Hospital, founded in 1877, is Richmonds first hospital. This 227-bed (all private room) facility, owned by HCA, has services that address nearly every major clinical area, such as Oncology, Gastroenterology, Orthopedics, and Cardiac Care.

The Emergency Department sees an annual patient volume of approximately 12,000. The majority (60-70%) are medical-related patients. There is a small volume of minor trauma (15-20%) and pediatric cases (less than 5%). Physicians are required to respond to hospital codes. One-fourth of all patients seen in the Emergency Department are admitted, and physicians occasionally write admitting orders. The physicians work single coverage shifts.

Location Description:
Richmond, Virginia, needs no introduction it is one of the oldest cities in the United States. This historic city continues to attract new residents due to its progressive spirit and Old World charm. This city of 400,000 residents with a service area of one million is an interesting blend of pre-Revolutionary War structures and modern skyscrapers. Metropolitan Richmond is a cultural center renowned throughout the South. Its two major concert halls, numerous museums, and arts council offer year round entertainment, which includes art, music, dance, and theater. Seven universities and colleges in the area offer courses and degrees in all subjects. The Medical College of Virginia is recognized as one of the finest medical schools in the country. In addition, three major theme parks, Washington D.C., Virginia Beach, and the Blue Ridge Mountains are all less than a two-hour drive away.

Qualifications:
All interested candidates must be board-eligible or board-certified in Emergency Medicine or a Primary Care specialty with extensive Emergency Medicine experience.
