Intensivist needed in South Central MA. 90 minutes west of Boston and less than one hour to Hartford Ct. Medical Center has a full time position available for an Intensivist, which provides 24/7 coverage for the critical care unit. The intensive care unit is a combined cardiac and medical unit, with 12 licensed beds, ten or eleven of which are in operation on a regular basis. The intensivists also oversee the medical care given in the intermediate care unit, which consists of 18 monitored beds. This unit will expand to 24 beds in the foreseeable future. There are three budgeted positions for intensivists. The Critical Care unit works on an closed model. The position available offers full time employment with benefits. The Medical Center was opened in 1893 as a community hospital; the current service area has a population in excess of 150,000. Licensed for approximately 200 beds and has a full range of services not typically seen in a community hospital. In the past few years the Medical Center has invested in excess of 20 million dollars in facility upgrades and capital equipment purchases. There are new operating suites and PACU, a new fixed MRI, 16-slice CT scanner, PACs system for picture archiving, etc. Additionally, a computerized physician order entry system and an electronic medical record will be operational by the end of 2009. The following clinical specialties are represented on the medical staff: Cardiologists (invasive, noninvasive, interventional); neurosurgeons; orthopedic surgeons (general orthopods, fellowship-trained in sports medicine, and fellow-ship trained in hand and upper extremity); endocrinologists; hematologists/oncologists; rheumatologists; radiologists (general, interventional, neuro, and nuclear); general surgeons; intensivists and pulmonologists; nephrologists; adult internal medicine; obstetrics/gynecology; pediatricians, infectious disease, etc. Approximately 90% of the medical staff is Board certified in at least one clinical specialty; several physicians are Board certified in multiple specialties. The Medical Center has an extremely busy emergency department (in excess of 40,000 visits per year). In addition to the Medical Centers critical care unit consisting of intensive care and telemetry, there are the following hospital units and departments: birthing center, sleep lab, women=s center, comprehensive imaging service, medical/surgical units, peri-operative areas, short-term inpatient psychiatric unit, etc. The patient care area for critical care was completely renovated in 2006.
The Medical Center is located in the foothills of the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts. Outstanding private schools are available at all levels (elementary, secondary, college); additionally, there are 15 excellent public and private colleges available in close proximity to the Medical Center. The cost of living in Western Massachusetts is significantly less than eastern Massachusetts. The Medical Center is located at the junction of major north/south and east/west highway systems for ease in traveling to the cities and shore. The salary for a full time Intensivist is $225,000 per year; a complete benefit package with health, dental, life, disability and malpractice insurance is a part of the benefit package.
