Job-Wound care physician- outpatient wound care clinic  

 

Time commitment: 3 full days / week;   no weekends, no holidays, no night call,  no weekend call

                                        Typical day 8:00am until work is completed (usually 6pm)

 

Description:

 

    The physician will be responsible for the management of patients presenting with chronic ulcers or wounds of various etiologies.  Types of ulcers/wounds include venous ulcers, arterial ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, traumatic wounds, surgical wounds, pressure ulcers.  The physician will coordinate care of these patients including collaboration with other consultants (vascular surgery, plastic surgery, infectious disease, surgery) as well as the patient’s primary care physician.  The physician will be responsible for assessing the wound/ulcer and outlining a treatment plan including assessment of etiology, managing any infection, debridement/biopsy/incision and drainage of areas, choosing appropriate dressing, and outlining a plan for offloading  of the area if necessary.  Procedures done within the clinic are listed above and also include application of skin substitutes, multilayer compression wrapping, unna boot application, application of negative pressure wound therapy, total contact casting, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.  Typical patient case load for a day is 20-25 patients.

 

Ideal candidate:

 

·         Board certified in internal medicine, family medicine, or surgery with an interest in wound care

·         Experience working in wound care in acute care setting or outpatient setting

·         Certified wound specialist certification (not mandatory to have this designation)

·         Able to work with nurses and colleagues to insure coordinated care of complex patients with ulcers/wounds

·         NYS license/DEA number

·         Experience with hyperbaric oxygen(HBO)  indications and oversight (this is not mandatory but the candidate must have a willingness to undergo training in HBO if they do not possess this initially)

·         Experience with negative pressure wound therapy and other modalities as noted above
