Tacoma -- Medical Director, Inpatient Psychiatry

Seeking a Medical Director (70% clinical practice/30% administrative duties) for this growing psychiatric inpatient service. It's a 38-bed inpatient geropsych facility, and a 20-bed unit dedicated to adult psychiatric voluntary and involuntary admissions. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop a growing inpatient psychiatric program and to unite with the largest behavioral health organization in the South Puget Sound region.

The Medical Director has direct responsibility for the quality of psychiatric care provided and medical staff relationships. The incumbent provides psychiatric behavioral health leadership for clinical and business planning, clinical performance, Medical Quality Assessment/Assurance, Risk Management, Continuing Medical Education, Graduate Medical Education (GME) and Medical Staff Credentialing activities at MHS. The Medical Director-Level 1 works in partnership with operational leadership and provides leadership to achieve Behavioral Health strategic objectives. The incumbent works collaboratively with the leadership teams, and frontline psychiatric leadership in a team-oriented approach to planning and operations, and serves as a key link between health system, Behavioral Health, the provider community, and the public at large.

This position requires the development of critical relationships through broad ranging internal and external contacts to support Behavioral Health as a regional center for excellence in psychiatric patient care. External contacts include, among others, private physician/provider groups, other regional health care systems, University of Washington Medical School, regional and national organizations involved in the care of children, Pierce and King County RSN, national, state, and local regulatory agencies, and competing organizations. Internal contacts include all levels of staff and management.

Additional Information 

Education and Experience:

- Graduate of an accredited medical school
- Licensure to practice medicine in Washington State
- Board certified in psychiatry
- Minimum of 3-5 years clinical experience, providing direct patient care
- Experience as a Medical Director or in a comparable leadership role required
- Credentialed to practice  
- Additional education in healthcare administration preferred
