Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIU SOM) in Springfield, Illinois is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology with a subspecialty focus in Epilepsy and EEGs. This is an exciting time to be a part of the growth and expansion of a regional neuroscience program. SIU SOM offers a dynamic, challenging, busy and satisfying position within the School of Medicine.
As a member of the Department of Neurology at SIU SOM, the incumbent will represent the Department in a manner to enhance its patient care, educational, and research mission. This faculty member reports to the Chair of Neurology. The opportunity is approximately fifty-five percent clinical, twenty percent teaching, twenty percent research and five percent administration.
SIU SOM has received national recognition for innovation in medical education and offers a welcoming environment for dedicated clinicians who love to teach. The neurology department is well known for its innovative research and clinical therapeutics. SIU SOM is affiliated with Memorial Medical Center and St. John`s Hospital, serving the central and southern Illinois communities with a catchment area of over one million people.
Highlights of the position and area include:
  • Develop and maintain a professional epilepsy practice to include interpreting EEGs, long-term monitoring EEGs and intra-operative monitoring studies.
  • Collaborate with Neurology faculty and the Division of Neurosurgery to develop a Level 3 Comprehensive Epilepsy Center.
  • Mentor medical students, residents and other housestaff in the proper care of treating patients with Epilepsy in an inpatient and outpatient setting.

Qualifications: Board certified/board eligible in Neurology and at least one year of postdoctoral training or equivalent job experience in Epilepsy and EEG and board certification/board eligible in Clinical Neurophysiology or Epilepsy. Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the state of Illinois. A demonstrated background in education and administration is required.
