Job Description & Requirements
Internist - Physician - (Internal Medicine) Locum Tenens
StartDate: ASAP Available Shifts: 8 Hour/Day

The VA in Pittsburg is looking for an internal medicine physician for services. The provider can be either board certified or board eligible. The provider will need to obtain a current BLS, ACLS, and DEA upon being accepted for the position. The facility prefers that the candidate have either previous VA experience or experience in working with geriatrics, or both. The physician will be working in an out-patient setting seeing between 12-18 patients per day. The schedule will be from 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday. There is no call or overtime required. The provider will need to have basic computer skills and be efficient with using the government's EMR system.

Internal medicine (locum tenens) is a branch of medicine characterized by an emphasis on treating the whole body, rather than specialized focus on one body part of system. Many people use internists as their first point of medical contact, and in this way these physicians function similarly to primary care doctors. Internists are trained to treat and diagnose a wide range of illnesses that affect the entirety of the biological system. When an illness proves to be advancing, exotic or complex, internists will usually refer their patients to specialists.

Part of the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, this medical center offers Pittsburgh area veterans a gold standard of healthcare. The accredited 146-bed facility offers medical, neurological and surgical services to veterans, along with a full suite of primary and specialty services. The hospital expanded significantly in 2012, adding the Consolidation Building, which houses outpatient services and 79 psychiatric beds. Never content to rest on its laurels, the VAMC has another expansion slated for 2013, a 65,000 square foot research facility.
