About the Location
St. Petersburg is a city in Pinellas County, Florida. The city is located on a peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The sun almost always shines on St. Petersburg, the "Sunshine City" that enjoys an average of 361 days of clear skies per year. Combine that with 244 miles of glimmering coastline along Tampa Bay, the Gulf of Mexico, Boca Ciega Bay and the intra coastal waterways and you have one hot beach destination. Catch the sun, surf and sand at Ft. De Soto Park, or take a hike up the 37-mile Pinellas Trail. Enjoy a Devil Rays game during baseball season or escape to the shady oasis of the Sunken Gardens. Due to its good weather and low cost of living, the city has long been a popular destination, and in recent years the population has moved in a much more youthful direction. Along with beautiful beaches, St. Petersburg attracts visitors with the Salvador Dali Museum, Fort De Soto Park and the St. Petersburg Pier. The pier approach and walkways are open to walking and biking along the waterfront. The approach area has a boat/sailboat/electric boat business, the St. Petersburg Museum of History, two large parking lots and stops for the St. Petersburg Trolley service. Beach Drive is a block away and features a variety of dining and shopping opportunities. St. Petersburg offers an array of interactive, art, science and natural attractions to spark your group's curiosity, while its beaches – some of America's best – offer major fun in the sun. Don’t miss the newly gentrified downtown strip of park-side cafes and other establishments. And, oh, by the way, Central Florida's theme parks are just a short drive away.
