Whidbey Island forms the northern boundary of Puget Sound and is home to nearly 70,000 residents. The fourth largest island in the contiguous United States, Whidbey is approximately 55 miles long and between 1.5 and 12 miles wide. Located between the Olympic Peninsula and the mainland of western Washington north of the Metro Seattle corridor, Whidbey Island is sometimes referred to as "Puget Sounds Largest Artists Colony." In addition to being a haven for lovers of the fine arts, Whidbey is also known for magnificent vistas and the serene tranquility of a Puget Sound island.
The WhidbeyHealth system, which includes WhidbeyHealth Medical Center, three EMS stations and nine outpatient locations, employs more than 700 staff members. All of the WhidbeyHealth facilities are operated by the Whidbey Island Public Hospital District and are supported by the WhidbeyHealth Foundation, established in 1981 as Whidbey General Hospital Foundation, a qualified non-profit corporation, and rechristened in 2016 as all services and locations were unified under the WhidbeyHealth name.
