Employee works under the supervision of the Emergency Department Chief. Employee works with full professional responsibilities for his/her actions and advice. Carries out duties in accordance with the accepted standard of care and in accordance with established military rules and regulations. Residency trained and/or BoardCertified in Emergency Medicine or four years of Emergency Room experiencewith progressive experience and demonstrated expertise equivalent in breadth and intensity is required. Responsible for the examination, diagnosis and treatment of the full range of patients seen in the ER. Receives patients entering the ER having any of a variety of emergency conditions during after duty hours as need arises. Makes immediate critical decisions involving difficult emergency cases (e.g., heart attacks, head injuries, lacerations, seizures, etc.) and initiates treatment. Treats the physical condition of the patient or recognizes and refers patient to a specialist for diagnosis and treatment when necessary. Performs minor surgery as required. Works independently in a Level 2 trauma setting. Instructs and supervises other medical personnel in care and treatment of patients. Administers and prescribes medicine and treatment.
