MAJOR DUTIES: Serves as a board-eligible specialist in the field of Dermatology for outpatient cases. Examines patients, evaluates laboratory and clinical findings differentiating between various contributory causes, renders prompt dermatologic diagnoses, and administers appropriate treatment. Provides diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the skin, hair, scalp and nails, including acne, cysts, psoriasis, rosacea, melasma, vitiligo, actinic keratosis, eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), herpes zoster and simplex, skin cancers and tumors, warts, moles, skin tags, and other skin growths. Dermatologic procedures include excision of skin cancers and moles, skin biopsies, skin tag removal, cryosurgery (liquid nitrogen treatments), electrosurgery, patch testing, phototherapy, chemical peels, iontophoresis, intra-lesional injections, and laser procedures. Orders and interprets laboratory tests and imaging necessary to complete medical evaluation of cases to include: blood counts, urinalysis, sedimentation rates, etc. Consults with specialists in other fields when assistance is required in order to determine the best diagnosis or best treatment. Follows through on cases and alters course of treatment as necessary, utilizing latest techniques. Decisions are accepted as authoritative. The incumbent is responsible for the education of physician assistants, nurse practitioners, technicians and other physicians within the Medical Treatment Facility.
