Allowing Normal Food at Will After Major Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery Does Not Increase Morbidity: A Randomized Multicenter Trial.
After major upper gastrointestinal surgery, food is withheld for several days. This routine is not supported by randomized controlled trials. We compared a routine of allowing normal food at will immediately after surgery to nil-by-mouth and enteral tube feeding for 5 days. Allowing normal food at will did not increase morbidity.Page: 721DOI: 10.1097/SLA.0b013e31815cca68Authors: Lassen, Kristoffer MD, PhD *+; Kjaeve, Jorn MD, PhD *+; Fetveit, Torunn MD ++; Trano, Gerd MD [S]; Sigurdsson, Helgi Kjartan MD [P]; Horn, Arild MD, PhD [//]; Revhaug, Arthur MD, PhD *+
